Wipro pay hike dives from 9.5% last year to 5%

Wipro has given an average salary increase of about 5% to its employees in India, way below the increase of 9.5% that it gave last year.
But the increase looks to be better than last year for employees based on-site (near the customers), an indication perhaps of the greater importance that Indian IT services companies are giving to employment in customer locations.
When TOI contacted Wipro, the company said it has announced salary hikes for eligible employees effective from June 1. “On an average, the increments are in the mid-single digits for offshore employees while increments for on-site employees vary from low to mid-single digits depending on their geographical location. As is the norm at Wipro, top performers have been rewarded with relatively higher increases in their compensation,” it said.
On-site employees received an average 2% last year.
The lower salary increase for Indian employees, which forms the bulk of the organisation, doesn’t come as a surprise, given that the IT services industry has slowed down and several segments are being automated.
