WhatsApp will cease to function on certain Android and iOS devices starting next week

WhatsApp will discontinue support for certain Android and iOS smartphones starting October 24. According to the official website of the Meta-owned platform, WhatsApp will no longer be available on Android smartphones running Android OS 5.0 or older. This is part of the platform’s routine process as it updates its features and interface, resulting in the discontinuation of support for older devices.

To ensure that your device remains compatible with WhatsApp, you should update your smartphone if it’s running on these older software versions. The current eligibility criteria for WhatsApp-compatible devices include:

– Android phones with OS 5.1 and newer
– iPhones with iOS 12 and later
– Phones with KaiOS 2.5.0 and newer, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2

To determine if WhatsApp will cease to work on your device, you need to check your operating system version. Simply go to your phone’s settings, select “About phone,” and then choose “Software information.” If your smartphone is running Android 5.0 or below, WhatsApp will stop supporting it starting from October 24.

For iOS devices, go to the general settings and select the “About” option to view the current iOS version on your iPhone. Before ending support for your device, WhatsApp will send notifications to users, advising them to update their operating systems if possible.

WhatsApp needs to discontinue support for certain devices periodically to accommodate new features and security options. One of the recent features is the ability to create customized stickers using artificial intelligence. To create your own stickers, follow these steps:

1. Open the WhatsApp chat of the contact for whom you want to create a sticker.
2. Tap on the smiley icon and go to the stickers option.
3. Tap on “Create” and then “Continue.”
4. Provide a description of the sticker you want to create in the English language.
5. The app will generate four stickers based on your description.
6. You can choose the one you like or modify the description for different options.
7. Once you’re satisfied, tap on “share” to use the sticker.
