WhatsApp Introduces “Incognito Mode” for Meta AI to Shield User Privacy

Meta has officially launched a new “Incognito Mode” for its Meta AI chatbot on WhatsApp, aiming to resolve growing privacy concerns regarding sensitive artificial intelligence interactions. This feature allows users to engage in temporary, private sessions where conversations are processed in a secure environment inaccessible even to Meta itself.

Unlike standard AI chats, incognito messages are not stored by default and vanish automatically once the session is closed. This “Private Processing” technology utilizes Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) to ensure that personal inquiries—ranging from health and finance to confidential work matters—remain strictly between the user and the assistant.

The update, powered by the latest Muse Spark AI model, also previews a forthcoming “Side Chat” feature, which will let users consult Meta AI privately within an ongoing conversation without other participants seeing the exchange. While standard person-to-person chats remain protected by end-to-end encryption, this new mode offers a dedicated layer of anonymity specifically for AI usage. Incognito Mode is expected to roll out globally across WhatsApp and the standalone Meta AI app over the next few months.
