This unit will manufacture and assemble all Vivo smartphones that are presently available in the Indian market. The unit will strive to empower India by creating new jobs as well as reducing Vivo’s dependence on imports. The unit will generate 2,200 jobs with some Chinese employees in the initial phases to educate Indian employees regarding the manufacturing process. Vivo is planning to convert its assembly unit altogether to Indian skilled labourers very soon.
The unit was inaugurated by Chinese Ambassador to India, Le Yucheng and Vivo Mobile India CEO Alex Feng. Vivo claims that the unit can make up to a million handsets each month with the ability to expand further as per demand.
According to Alex Feng, CEO, Vivo Mobile India, “The commencement of our first manufacturing unit in India marks a significant moment for us, reflecting our ambitious business strategies for the country. We understand the vast potential and fast growth of the smartphone market in India.”
The Indian unit will make and assemble new models including Y11, Y21 and Y15S smartphones.
