Videocon D2h, MStar Semiconductor Join Hands To Come Up With MPEG-4 HD STBs

With an aim to inch one step closer to further strengthening its market base by offering advanced technology to consumers, Videocon d2h has now tied up with Taiwan based MStar Semiconductor. The duo will bring to the Indian market a range of new HD MPEG-4 DVB-2 set top boxes (STB) that will in turn bring to the table some really unique features for customers.

The ease of user experience, best in class integration and performance provide a significant edge for our cutting edge high definition set-top box. We are hopeful that MStar technology will provide better experience to our consumers as we are looking at consolidating our leadership position.” Videocon d2h CEO Anil Khera was quoted as saying.

The new STBs will offer some rare inclusions, the most prominent being PVR that will allow users to watch content based on their interest anytime they want. Other notable features include: title/time based recording, rewind and forward, auto serial recording, pause live TV and mark-skip-watch among others. “Having a 10 million subscriber base in a very short time in India is a strong testimony of Videocon d2h’s success. It is our honor and pleasure to be the partner with Videocon d2h. Leveraging our cutting-edge set-top box platform, we will continue to support Videocon d2h to further build upon their success,” MStar Semiconductor chairman Wayne Liang was quoted as saying.

With that said, the Videocon group is eying to set up a one million STB plant that will provide STBs for people in phases III and IV of digitisation, this year. Videocon d2h, Asia’s has already crossed 10 million connections. The youngest and latest entrant in the DTH industry went pan India in 2010 and has grown tremendously in the last 4 years.
