UrbanClap Arrives In Chenna

To branch out in over 10 Indian cities with 100+ categories in the next six months
Will be strengthening its current workforce from the present 50 to about 250 in the next six months

UrbanClap, India’s largest mobile services marketplace, launched their mobile app in Chennai yesterday. The company currently 2_SalonCat_screenshotoffers services in 60 categories in Bengaluru, Mumbai, New-Delhi but it has plans to expand its reach and provide services in more than a hundred categories by the end of the year.

The idea is to help consumers find the best services easily and provide the large base of individuals/small businesses with a platform to manage and grow their client network. From a plumber to a wedding photographer or a yoga teacher, you can find everything on UrbanClap. You only need to take a few seconds, enter your needs on their Android app and the platform will bring the right professionals to you.

Varun Khaitan, Co-founder of UrbanClap, said “We are a marketplace making it easy for consumers to find and hire the right service professionals for their needs. Our vision is to serve the cities of India. So, we thought we should do our bit to serve the residents of Chennai as part of our launch in the city. We are grateful to the authorities for co-operating with us in this endeavour . After our success in the Delhi/NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai now Chennai is our next city of choice for launch” “We thought we should do our bit….. and we did a drive to promote road safety, where in we distributed helmets to two wheeler riders who were driving without a helmet. We are grateful for the authorities for co-operating with us in this endeavour. ”

“Being a metropolitan city of the country, the residents of Chennai lead a very busy life. It is very difficult for them to take out the time, research and find trusted services matching their needs. UrbanClap will make it very easy for Chennai citizens to complete their service needs, as easy as a clap. We plan to galvanize this space by connecting the talented musicians, photographers and other artists with those in need of their services.”

Varun and his two friends, Abhiraj and Raghav came up with the idea of UrbanClap with the objective of creating a large tech business to solve a primary customer need in India. All three realised how fragmented the local services industry in the country really was and how difficult it could be to find and hire the right service professional.

The business model is based on the premise of charging the listed professionals for the business they get through the platform. UrbanClap has already raised Rs10 crore in funding from SAIF Partners, Accel Partners and the founders of Snapdeal, KunalBahl and Rohit Bansal.

Also UrbanClap raises USD 10 million in Series A funding from SAIF Partners and Accel Partners.

Currently based out of Delhi-NCR, the company has an extensive growth plan which involves branching out in about 10 more Indian cities. After Bengaluru & Mumbai, it is slated to make its platform live in Chennai. In addition, it will be strengthening its current workforce from the present 50 to about 250 in the next six months.
