Unveiling and Initial Thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy M55 5G

Samsung introduced the Galaxy M55 5G smartphone in India today, unveiling its notable features such as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, a large FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a robust 5000mAh battery. Here, we share our initial impressions after getting our hands on the device.

The Galaxy M55 5G arrives with a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Infinity-O Super AMOLED display, boasting a high refresh rate of 120Hz. The screen exhibits impressive brightness levels even under direct sunlight, reaching up to 1000 nits peak brightness. Additionally, the device incorporates HDR support and Dragontrail glass for enhanced protection against scratches and damage.

Under the hood, the Galaxy M55 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. Notably, it offers support for multiple 5G bands, ensuring reliable connectivity for users. Operating on Android 14 with One UI 6.1 overlay, Samsung guarantees four major OS updates and five years of security updates for the device. Furthermore, the smartphone features NFC functionality and Knox security for added convenience and protection.

In terms of design, the device sports a small punch-hole camera cutout housing a 50-megapixel front-facing camera capable of recording 4K videos. The earpiece grille serves a dual purpose, also functioning as a secondary speaker. Meanwhile, the button placements are typical, with the power button and volume rockers located on the right side, and the hybrid SIM slot situated on the left. The bottom edge houses the primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and loudspeaker grille, while the secondary microphone is positioned on the top edge. Constructed with a plastic frame featuring a matte finish, the Galaxy M55 5G offers a comfortable grip and resistance to fingerprints.

On the rear, the smartphone houses a triple camera setup, comprising a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. Both the front and rear cameras support 4K 30 fps video recording, delivering high-quality imaging and videography capabilities. Additionally, the device’s plastic back, available in a Denim Black color variant, presents a matte finish that remains free from fingerprint smudges.

Despite its sizable 5000mAh battery, the Galaxy M55 5G maintains a lightweight profile, weighing just 180 grams. Moreover, it introduces support for 45W fast charging, a first for the M series, ensuring quick and efficient charging.
