Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 Delayed Till October 19 Because Of Chinese Golden Week

Canonical’s Łukasz Zemczak had previously shared an interesting report on OTA-7 software update . The update which brings many new features and bugfixes to Ubuntu Touch was expected to release on September 22. However, a new report confirms that the update has been postponed till October 19, due to the seven-day Chinese Golden Week holiday.

Although Ubuntu Touch is the world’s newest smartphone operating system, it managed to hit the bull’s eye. In the market where Windows, Android and iOS have already been fighting with each other since long, Ubuntu Touch was able to impress the audience and garnered its own fan base.

While Zemczak agrees that September 22 was a good day for the Ubuntu for phones project, he confirmed that the update has been delayed.

“Today was a quiet day – at least landing-wise. The new dual-building version of unity-scopes-shell has landed, but besides that there was not too many other rc-proposed releases. Currently the final release date of OTA-7, as already mentioned by Pat, is planned for the 19th of October – so later than usually.” says Łukasz Zemczak.

As Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 feature and string freeze are now in effect, developers would not be able to add new features to the OTA-7 software update. Critical security holes can, however, be fixed while testing. As the development cycle for the upcoming OTA update for Ubuntu has not yet entered the final freeze stage, developers still have time to push their changes into the repositories.
