Tata Sky Launches New Set-Top Box With A Wi-Fi Dongle

Tata Sky, a leading direct broadcast satellite television provider has recently announced a new set-top box (STB) with recording ability. TataSkyReports further suggest that the STB will also available with a Wi-Fi dongle which would let its viewers to watch recorded content on their tablets as well as handsets without consumption of additional data. Interestingly, this happens to be the first time when such a facility is available in India.

“The new product (storage capacity of 500 GB) which comes at a price of ₹ 9300 along with the Wi-Fi dongle is aimed at consumers in the metro and Tier-I cities. We expect to see a fair share of growth as we have seen with our other products,” announced Pallavi Puri, chief commercial officer at Tata Sky during the launch of their revolutionary service.

In 2006, Tata Group had joined hands with Fox to release Tata Sky which currently enjoys 14.5 million user base out of 50 million connections.

With the launch of its new STB, Tata Sky is all set to woo customers who want to access their favourite content anywhere without using Internet data. The innovative technology has been unveiled at a time when more than seventy per cent of viewers accessing broadband on their phones are aged between 19 to 35 years and seeking new content.

As per the company, “Subscribers can watch previous five days episodes of their favourite shows and will be able to view live streaming of their favourite shows on close to 80 TV channels and also set reminders for the shows they want to catch.”

“In addition, subscribers can give a command to record their desired programme by being anywhere outside their homes, through their smartphone, which the STB at home will execute. Once recorded, it can be viewed on the STB or transferred to view outside,” it added.
