Sundar Pichai, the esteemed CEO of Alphabet Inc. and Google, celebrates his 51st birthday today. As he enters a new year of his life, it is an opportune moment to reflect on his remarkable career and the impact he has had on the technology landscape.

Under Pichai’s leadership, Google has transformed into a global powerhouse, influencing how we search for information, interact with technology, and shape the digital future. His visionary approach and ability to navigate complex challenges have cemented his status as one of the most respected leaders in the tech industry.

In last decade one major advancement in technology field has for American multinational technology conglomerate Alphabet Inc was when Indian-American business executive Sundar Pichai took over as the company’s chief executive officer (CEO) and its subsidiary Google in 2015.

Early Life and Education

Pichai was born in Madurai in Tamil Nadu on June 10, 1972 and grew up in modest surroundings. His father-Reghunatha Pichai- worked as an electrical engineer in GEC while his mother- Lakshmi Pichai- was a stenographer. Pichai didn’t have a smooth childhood growing up due to financial instabilities, he revealed through a statement a few weeks ago, where he said that him along with his family used to sleep on floor.

We would sleep on the living room floor. There was a drought when I was growing up, and we had anxiety. Even now, I can never sleep without a bottle of water beside my bed,” Pichai had told The New York Times in an old interview.

After completing his studies in metallurgical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kharagpur, Sundar Pichai ventured to the United States to pursue a Master’s degree in materials science and engineering at Stanford University.

Career and Moving Up with Google

Pichai worked in the at McKinsey & Company for a short time before joining Google in 2004. During his tenure at Google, Sundar Pichai assumed leadership responsibilities in product management and innovation, spearheading notable ventures including Chrome, Chrome OS, and playing a pivotal role in the development of Google Drive. Pichai went on to oversee the development of several new products such as Google Maps and in 2013, he added to Android to the list of products managed by him. In August 2015, Pichai was appointed the CEO of Google.

Pichai is a strongly passionate about sports especially cricket. Recently, he was seen congratulating CSK for winning their fifth IPL title via Twitter, in Football he is an ardent follower of FC Barcelona. In Pichai’s CEO Book, Impatience and Failure yields dividends.
