Sundar Pichai Appointed As Head Of Major Products & Services by Google

ITVoice News: Android and Chrome OS chief India-born Sundar Pichai has been appointed by Google CEO Larry Page as the head of the company’s leading products including search engine, maps, advertising and more. This appointment has taken place as a part of a restructuring of the management board of the company.

Due to the latest move, the 42-year-old executive will be taking charge of Sundar Pichai the main services of Google, which generate the majority of the company’s revenue. The Google products to be led by Pichai are main search, maps, advertising units, Google+, commerce and infrastructure. His previous duties will also be there including Android, Chrome and Apps business. Pichai will also head six executives including heads of research, social media and search, who previously used to report to Page.

Page has freed himself of all the major responsibilities as he will focus on the larger picture of the company. Other major operations including Nest, Calico, Google X, corporate development, legal, finance and business will be looked after by Page. Reports have also said that no management changes will take place in the YouTube division, and it will be run by Susan Wojcicki only. Experts have also said that Pichai has strong potential to emerge as the next CEO of the company, as the latest promotion has put his resume on a high. Google has gone through several top-management changes throughout this year. Pichai grew in the company after Google Apps head Dave Girouard left in March 2012, followed by Android chief Andy Rubin in March 2013. Others who left the company include chief business officer Nikesh Arora in July, head of Google’s social networking services Vic Gundotra in April and Google X director and Glass head Babak Parviz.

Pichai joined the company in 2004 and throughout these 9 years several tech companies have tried to hire him because of his well-known expertise. Several years ago Twitter tried to recruit him and his name was also raised when search was on for a new CEO of Microsoft.
