Sony’s Project Q handheld gaming console may run Android

Sony has announced a new version of the PlayStation Portable (PSP) called Project Q. This device will allow users to stream games from their PlayStation 5 console and is set to debut in November. A leaked video on Twitter shows the device running on a basic version of the Android OS, featuring a plastic-wrapped design with an 8-inch HD display placed in the middle of a DualSense controller with built-in microphones, speakers, triggers, and buttons.
When initially showcased in May, Sony revealed that Project Q would have an 8-inch HD display and enable gamers to stream PS5 games at up to 1080P resolution and 60fps over WiFi. The device is intended to provide a portable gaming experience with crisp visuals and smooth gameplay, streaming content from the PS5 to the handheld device.
It is expected to compete with other handheld gaming consoles like Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and Asus ROG Ally, which run on different platforms. However, it seems that to play games on Project Q, they must first be installed on a PlayStation 5 console, suggesting it functions as a companion device to the PS5 rather than a standalone gaming console or cloud streaming device.
