Solar sector expected to add 3.6 GW in 2016

The present year has so far seen addition of about 1,652 MW capacities which takes the total solar power production in the country to 4,816 MW.
India is likely to carry on the momentum in solar capacity addition and 2016 is forecast to see an important increase in new capacity when compared with present year on the back of favorable policy support.

State-run, NTPC and Solar Energy Corporation of India are expected to lay about 5,500 MW worth of projects up for public sale in few months.

Meanwhile, the government’s “UDAY” (Ujwal DIS COM Assurance Yojana), focused on the financial spin of power distribution companies, is likely to address one of the biggest obstacles in the Indian power sector.
