SIDCO’s Ill Repute Might Ruin Corp’s LED Dreams

SIDCO’s (Small Industries Development Corporations) bad reputation with respect to implementation of several LED Lightingprojects may cost it the much awaited LED lighting scheme project. Nearly a year post the project came into existence and gained approval by the previous council, the LED lighting scheme may not get implemented in the coming future.

There has been major upheavals from top officials of local self government,urban affairs and electricity department regarding the choice of SIDCO for the project.

Energy Efficient Services limited (EESL) which is an agency promoted by the public sector undertakings of power ministry is the favoured choice instead of SIDCO. According to an official who is linked with the project, stated that officials who are with the power department are favouring EESL for doing the LED lighting project. EESL has won projects in two states recently. In Andhra Pradesh, it will be installing energy efficient LED street lighting in all 111 municipalities/corporations. Apart from this, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is also in agreement with EESL for the replacement of 2 lakh conventional street lights in the SDMC area with energy efficient LED lights.
