Self-powered EnOcean Sensor Kit for Home Automation Launched by element14

element14 has launched a self-powered sensor kit for designers and enthusiasts to get up and running with home and building automation. The EnOcean Sensor Kit requires no cables or batteries and can be used with the EnOcean Pi for a wide variety of applications including switching lights, controlling blinds as well as acquiring wireless sensor information like temperature and window/door status detection.

The self-powered wireless sensors and a switch, ideal for home automation applications, can directly communicate with an intelligent smart home server via the EnOcean standardized ultra-low power radio protocol. This offers a reliable wireless communication with a range of up to 30 meters in buildings.

Featuring a set of three wireless sensors; push button, magnet contact switch & temperature sensor, the EnOcean Sensor Kit can be used in home automation applications that require remote sensing and remote control via tablets or smart phones. For example, the Raspberry Pi is an ideal platform to setup a smart home server where the EnOcean Pi acts as a bridge (Gateway-Controller) to the EnOcean switches and sensors providing data and status information.

Features include:

  • Sub 1 GHz frequencies for worldwide use: 902MHz, 868MHz & 315MHz
  • EnOcean radio standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-10
  • No cables, no batteries required, maintenance-free
  • Plug&play energy harvesting solution
  • Miniature battery-less switch module
  • Solar-powered temperature sensor
  • Solar-powered magnet contact
  • Perfect solution for home automation applications
  • For use with EnOcean Pi & Raspberry Pi
  • Compatible with more than 1,200 products of the EnOcean eco-system

David Shen, CTO at element14, said: “The EnOcean Sensor Kit combines state of the art energy harvesting with ultra-low power sensors to create a unique automation solution for use with the Raspberry Pi. This kit is an exciting addition to our portfolio of IoT enablement kits and solutions.”

Priced at $69.99, the EnOcean Sensor Kit is available from Farnell element14 in Europe, Newark element14 in North America and element14 in APAC all with next day delivery. Quality data sheets and application notes can be found on the product pages together with a range of associated accessories, and 24/5 live tech support is available for any queries.
