Samsung Galaxy S5 to be cheaper than Galaxy S4 at launch: Report

samsung_galaxy_s5_flickrSamsung finally took the wraps off its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, amidst much fanfare at MWC 2014 in Barcelona.

The South Korean manufacturer at the event however, did not reveal a price for its Galaxy S5. According to a Korean report, Samsung is in talks with various international mobile carriers, before it announces an official price.

Phone Arena, citing a Korean publication, has claimed that Samsung is considering pricing its latest 2014 flagship lower than the competition, such as the Sony Xperia Z2. Further, if the Korean report is to be believed, the company might price the Galaxy S5 lower than the company’s 2013 flagship, the Galaxy S4 (launched in India at Rs. 41,500 last year).

We’d first heard of the rumoured lower pricing of the Galaxy S5 in a report earlier in February that suggested that Samsung would price its latest smartphone lower than the previous Galaxy S flagships. As per the report, the lower pricing suggestion for the Galaxy S5 has been recommended by wireless carriers.

However, the Korean report did not indicate what the actual pricing of the Galaxy S5 will be for any market.

It is yet to be seen whether Samsung’s Galaxy S5 will be priced attractively or would be on the same lines as previous Galaxy flagship smartphones.

On Monday, the Korean manufacturer also announced that the Galaxy S5 would launch in 150 countries, starting from 11 April 2014.

The biggest new features being touted by Samsung on the Galaxy S5 include a fingerprint scanner on the home button, a heart rate sensor placed near the 16-megapixel camera, and the IP67 certification that makes it dust and water-resistant. The smartphone also features a new design in terms of the back panel now being perforated, and available with four colours at launch, and optional designer back panels.

Additionally, it has been noted that the Galaxy S5 would arrive in four colour variants – Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold. Furthermore, the handset will be compatible with Samsung Gear Fit, which is the firm’s first curved, Super AMOLED health-focused wristband.
