Samsung DeX Pad launched alongside Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+

Samsung, besides launching its flagship smartphones, Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+, has launched a third device that comes as the successor to the last year’s DeX docking system. The next-gen Samsung Dex Pad easily connects the two smartphones with the large screen and other platforms. The price of the accessory is not yet known.

“With the DeX Pad, a new docking system, users can easily connect the Galaxy S9 and S9+ to a larger monitor, keyboard and mouse to expand the mobile experience with enhanced document editing or even full-screen gaming,” says the firm. Users can also make the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ into a Touch Pad using the DeX Pad and can even plug in the 3.5mm headphone jack to make the content more immersive.

The DeX Pad supports two USB-A 2.0 ports, an HDMI output and a USB-C charging port. It can also fast charge the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. However, if a non-Samsung or Samsung charger below 15 W (9 V, 1.67 A) is used, the accessory may not operate or may be damaged.
“By docking your smartphone into the DeX Pad, your phone will launch a special DeX mode on the connected external monitor and business productivity apps can be opened in multiple separate windows,” adds the listing page.

Design-wise, the Samsung DeX Pad is way different than the last year’s DeX station dock. This time it has a plate-like design where the smartphone can be laid flat instead of staying in an upright position. It also has a vent to let go of the excessive heat.

The listing page also mentions that the DeX Pad support Galaxy S9 only and the older Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices may be supported later with an OS update.

In the US, the Galaxy S9 is priced at $720 (roughly Rs 46,700) and the Samsung Galaxy S9+ is priced at $840 (roughly Rs 55,000). Samsung has not yet revealed when the smartphones will be hit the retail stores in India.
