Samsung confirms ‘Galaxy S9’ smartphone’s name during Q4 2017 results announcement

We are just few weeks away from the launch of Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone(s). The South Korean technology company has confirmed its existence and the recent leaks have left nothing to imagination. It also has sent invites to media houses showing ‘9’ in it, strongly suggesting the name of the handset to be ‘Galaxy S9’. However, so far the firm has not officially confirmed the name of the upcoming flagship smartphone. It has finally done so now with its Q4 2017 results.
In the blog post by Samsung, while stating what to expect in Q1 2018, the company said that “In the first quarter, the company expects the mobile business to improve its earnings, led by an increase in sales of flagship products with the launch of Galaxy S9.” Nothing else other than the name was mentioned about the smartphone.
Samsung also re-confirmed the launch time of the smartphone. “In the first quarter, amid forecasts for weak demand for smartphones and tablets due to low seasonality, the company expects to increase its smartphone shipments backed by the newly launched Galaxy A8 and A8+ and upcoming release of the Galaxy flagship, which will launch next month.”
The smartphone giant added that while the company’s total smartphone shipments decreased as compared to Q3 2017, the sales of flagship models, such as the Galaxy Note 8 grew.
As for 2018, the company said that it aims further to expand the sales of its premium smartphones and keep improving features such as camera and Bixby. It also has plans for mid-to-low end smartphones. “In addition, Samsung plans to continue optimizing its mid- to low-end lineup and enhancing productivity in order to achieve qualitative growth of the smartphone business.”
Earlier this month at CES 2018, Samsung mobile head DK Koh nearly confirmed the arrival of the Galaxy S9 for MWC 2018. Koh did not confirm the name of the smartphone but he did reveal that the company’s ‘first flagship’ will be arriving at the MWC trade show next month.
