R&M, the global Swiss developer and provider of cabling systems for high-quality network infrastructures, investigates the trend toward R&M Cablingsmart networks in the latest edition of its customer magazine CONNECTIONS. Smart networks come about due to the increasing digitalization in many areas of our everyday lives with greater deployment of intelligent sensors and controls. They are in buildings, machines, vehicles and utility services, and are constantly connected with the Internet. The background report by R&M Innovation Manager Dr. Jan Kupec looks at the value added of this trend. It shows that there are a lot more possibilities than you might expect behind connectors and cables. Among other things, a complete, digital image of the physical world is created in the data center and can be used to great advantage. However, R&M’s experience has shown that the cabling has to be monitored consistently in all areas to ensure the desired benefit of smart networks. The interfaces between the physical and digital worlds must be planned in a differentiated manner to establish a continuous digital chain, according to Dr. Jan Kupec.

The specialist magazine CONNECTIONS No. 51 also looks at current trends in the world of fiber-optic technology. Lens technology is presented as a solution for better interfaces in multi-fiber connectors. Investors and planners find out more about the reasons why a Passive Optical LAN (POL) should be used – an alternative to standard structured cabling in buildings.

In eight case studies, international R&M experts report on installation solutions for key building projects. These include the new UBS head office in the City of London, Kraków Airport and the SAIB Bank in Egypt.

The magazine also presents several new developments by the Swiss cabling specialist. The FO platform Netscale for data centers of all sizes is currently attracting a lot of attention worldwide. It enables a previously unattainable density of ports and cables. And for the very first time, R&M is presenting anti-bacterial cabling solutions for the healthcare sector.
