Prasar Bharti plans Doordarshan app for mobile phones and tablets

doordarshanHoping to revive the popularity of Doordarshan among tech-savvy youth and the urban audience, Prasar Bharti is planning to launch a mobile application of India’s one of the largest broadcasting organisations. According to a Times of India report, the mobile app will feature news and entertainment along with access to archival material to viewers on mobile phones, tablets and laptops.

“The apps for news service will be a priority. Prasar Bharati has an unenviable credible network through the length and breadth of the country that will be put to use. It has the potential of creating its own niche amid the private news broadcasters,” a source said.

According to reports, digitized archival material could be available as subscription based. Prasar Bharti expects revenue of Rs. 200 crore from ads with digital media accounting 25-30 percent of its revenue.

It’s notable Prasar Bharti has already launched an Android app for All India Radio. The app features latest national and regional news along with special news-based programs. Your Android device needs to be Android version 2.2 or higher to be able to run the app and is a mere 1.9 MB to download. You can download the AIR app for free from the Google Play store.
