Addressing the Leaders’ Plenary Session at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the event will be instrumental in building a sensitive and human-centric global artificial intelligence ecosystem. He emphasized that AI must be treated as a shared resource dedicated to the welfare of all humanity, particularly focusing on the aspirations of the Global South.
Drawing from the wisdom of Lord Buddha, the Prime Minister noted that “Right Action comes from Right Understanding.” He urged global leaders to transform the current technological disruption into humanity’s greatest opportunity through ethical and timely decision-making.
Three Pillars for Ethical AI
To counter the risks of unethical AI behavior, PM Modi proposed three transformative measures:
-
Trusted Global Data Framework: Emphasizing data sovereignty and integrity to prevent the “garbage in, garbage out” phenomenon.
-
The ‘Glass Box’ Approach: Advocating for transparent and verifiable safety rules over opaque “black box” systems.
-
Embedding Human Values: Ensuring AI systems are ethically guided to prevent unintended harm caused by pursuit of single-minded objectives.
India’s Leading Role and Infrastructure
Highlighting the India AI Mission, the Prime Minister shared significant progress in the nation’s technological infrastructure. He announced that 38,000 GPUs are currently operational, with an additional 24,000 to be added within six months. Furthermore, the AIKosh national dataset platform has already made over 7,500 datasets and 270 AI models available as public resources.
PM Modi concluded by asserting that in India, technology is a medium of empowerment rather than dominance. By integrating human trust with technological advancement, he believes the world can ensure AI serves as a catalyst for inclusion and global progress.
