Panorama Intros A Series Of LED TVs In India

Panorama, a popular homegrown television brand of yester-years, is staging a comeback. Balaram Chowdhury, Panoramathe chairman of Rs 400 crore Panorama group, said that Panorama is introducing a series of LED TV models ranging from 19-inch to 40-inch to make inroads into the LED TV market, which is now ruled by Sony, Samsung, LG and other multinational brands.

Chowdhury pointed out that it is banking on an extensive service centre and dealer networks of Panorama along with quality to gain ground into the territory once ruled by them along with other home grown brands like Oscar, Uptron, Weston and EC. “We started our journey in 1981 and used to control 25% market-share in Bengal’s CTV market at one point of time in the late 80s. But due to onslaught of foreign brands since the beginning of the new century, we concentrated on rural markets. Again we want to make an inroad into Kolkata and other cities. Our main focus will be east now,” he added.

Chowdhury added that going by number, the company currently has 10% market-share in Bengal, which is predominantly based on CTV sales. However, it would stop production of CTV and will concentrate on LED from April. “By end of this fiscal, we should have 25% market-share in the LED market going by quantity,” he added.

Panorama is now making 4,000 LED units per month in its manufacturing plant at Doltala in North 24-Parganas.”Soon, the capacity would be Rs 15,000 per month and we are investing Rs 60 crore for this,” he added.

Chowdhury said it is importing LED in semi-knockdown condition and assembling in its manufacturing unit.”With time, indigenous components will go up,” he added.
