OnePlus Open Teaser Hints at Resemblance to OPPO Find N3

During an interview with Unbox Therapy, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau shared various insights about the OnePlus foldable phone, known as OnePlus Open. He disclosed that the company possesses an extensive portfolio of more than 600 patents related to hinge designs for foldable devices. Specifically for the OnePlus foldable, they hold 35 patents related to its hinge.

Compared to the hinge used in OPPO’s Find N2, the hinge in the OnePlus foldable incorporates 31 fewer components, resulting in a lighter and more compact design, approximately 37% smaller than the Find N2. Additionally, the use of improved materials has enhanced its strength.

Notably, the OnePlus foldable phone retains its signature alert slider on the left side, along with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button, positioned beneath the volume controls on the right side. The device features speakers both at the bottom and the top, while the USB Type-C port and SIM slot are located at the bottom, and the secondary microphone is situated at the top. Visible antenna bands adorn the metal frame.

Pete Lau mentioned that OnePlus is collaborating with Google to optimize apps for the foldable phone, ensuring a seamless user experience.

He clarified that the OnePlus folding phone is a collaborative effort between the OPPO and OnePlus teams, aiming to leverage the strengths of both. The OPPO team contributes expertise in foldable design and camera technologies, while OnePlus brings its reputation for fast and smooth experiences, minimalist design, and high-performance hardware to the table.

Lau revealed that the company will adopt a region-specific strategy, allowing a broader user base to access the device. Contrary to earlier rumors, it seems that OnePlus intends to focus on releasing OnePlus Open in more markets, including India, rather than widely distributing the OPPO Find N3.

Recently, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma was spotted using the OnePlus Open, providing a glimpse of the camera design previously seen in renders.

As per earlier speculations, the OnePlus Open is expected to be officially launched on October 19th, with further details set to be unveiled soon. OPPO is also anticipated to introduce the Find N3 in China later this month.
