Nokia: Asha 501 has standby battery life of 48 days

WASHINGTON: The new Nokia Asha 501, which was launched recently, will give 48 days of battery life on 2G networks while on standby, according to Nokia.asha

Along with the 48-day standby time, the 1200 mAh battery on the palm-sized device will also enable 17 hours of talk time and 56 hours of music playback, ABC News reports.

According to the report, the Asha 501 appears as a smaller variant of the Lumia Windows Phone series and comes in a variety of colours (red, blue, black, yellow, white and green), adding that the phone also has a multi-touch screen, Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity, a 3.2 Mega Pixel camera and a MicroSD memory option, expandable up to 32 GB.

Nokia also stated that although the Asha 501 does not support 3G or 4G data speeds, it comes packaged with the new Nokia Xpress Browser, which compresses Internet data by almost 90 percent, making mobile browsing a possibility in emerging markets and offering lower cost data options to all users.

The report further said that Nokia has teamed up with wireless carrier Airtel and Facebook to provide Asha 501 users on Airtel neworks in Africa and India with free data access via the Asha Facebook app and all mobile Facebook web pages.

According to a Nokia spokesperson, the Asha 501 will be available in the markets in Asia Pacific, India, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Europe from June 2013 onwards.

The new Asha mobile operating system has already attracted app developers from some of the most popular content creators for Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, including CNN, ESPN, Facebook, Foursquare, LinkedIn, The Weather Channel, Twitter, Electronic Arts and Gameloft, the report added.
