Nokia 3 to skip Android 7.1.2 Nougat, directly receive Android Oreo update

HMD Global, the company that hold the license to manufacture Nokia smartphones announced that all the Android powered Nokia devices will receive Android 8.0 Oreo update. However, now the company has revealed that the Nokia 3 smartphone will skip the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update and will directly get Android 8.0 Oreo update.
Juho Sarvikas, chief product officer at HMD Global revealed this while replying to a query on Twitter. The company has already rolled out Android Oreo update for its flagship smartphone Nokia 8 and also confirmed that soon Nokia 6 and 5 will also receive the update by the end of January 2018.
Similarly, it is also expected that the company will roll out the Android Oreo update for Nokia 3 by January or early February next year. The company first pushes out the beta updates through Nokia Phones Beta Lab programme. In order to receive the beta version, users have to register for the programme. The company has also promised that it will also give Android P update to its smartphones.
To recall, the company launched Nokia 3 in June this year in India along with the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5. Priced at Rs 9,499, the smartphone is available in Black and Blue colour options and comes with a polycarbonate back along with an aluminium frame.
The Nokia 3 is powered by a powered by 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek 6737 processor and comes with a 5-inch HD display with 720×1280 pixel resolution. The device comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.
Measuring 143.4×71.4×8.4mm, the smartphone sports an 8MP camera both on the rear and front end. Running Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box the device offers built in Google Assistant. The smartphone offers all the essential connectivity options and is backed by a 2630mAh battery.
