NIT Delhi makes its certificates and mark-sheets unforgeable

Institute implements Authenticate’s solution to prevent forgery of its documents  and shows a way to solve this problem for higher education

Authenticate Pte Ltd., provider of a highly secure technology that Authenticate’sprevents forgery of documents, announced that National Institute of Technology, Delhi (NIT) has implemented the solution to make their student’s educational documents unforgeable. All certificates and mark sheets issued by the institute will now carry a secure code which prevents their forgery. Moreover, these documents can be validated by any person using a common smartphone.

India’s education system suffers due to the existence of thousands of illegal degree mills that produce millions of fake and forged documents every year. These documents range from birth certificates to mark sheets and degrees. Not only the country’s reputation gets tarnished internationally, it also puts wrong people in responsible positions and fuels multi-layered corruption. Righteous students of an institution for which fake degrees are available suffer too. Their degrees are devalued and they have to compete with undeserving candidates with fake degrees.

NIT Delhi’s endeavour and commitment is to provide world class education to its students. In addition to educational excellence, their effort is to instil sharp focus on good moral values and ethics. To counter malpractices in the education system, NIT has taken a positive initiative to proactively safeguard their student mark sheets and certificates from forgery. Professor Ajay K Sharma, Director, NIT Delhi said, “Change is always in our hands, and at NIT we will always take every step to ensure that we secure the future of our students. Authenticate’s solution helps us to make all our documents unforgeable.”

Authenticate’s solution works by encrypting the important data of a document into a highly secured two-dimensional barcode which then becomes a part of the document. This barcode contains the original data encrypted using highly complex algorithms, making the document unforgeable. Anyone with a common smartphone can scan this code using Authenticate’s freely available application (on the website of NIT Delhi) to validate the original data which the app decrypts from the barcode. What makes this solution really practical is also the fact that this mobile application works even in the offline mode without an internet connection. The app is available for both Android and iOS devices.

Sunil Rai, Director of Sales, Authenticate India said “There are millions of people with fake degrees and diplomas in every country, including India. Authenticate protects the reputation and name of educational institutions by making their documents unforgeable and empowers a common man to validate the authenticity of those documents. We are happy that NIT understands the importance of the solution and is setting an example for other educational institutions.”
