Move over ChatGPT and Bard, Apple’s own chatbot Apple GPT is here

The chatbot is currently in the internal testing phase and is being evaluated for integration with various devices, including the Apple Vision Pro headset.
Apple analyst Mark Gurman recently disclosed that Apple is actively working on an AI chatbot similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. However, the company has not yet determined how they will officially launch it for the public.
Sources from Bloomberg report that Apple has developed its own framework called “Ajax” specifically for creating large language models (LLMs). The company is currently conducting internal testing of the chatbot, which some engineers have informally referred to as “Apple GPT.” The development process is ongoing, and Apple is carefully considering its options for releasing this innovative AI chatbot to users in the future.
Under the leadership of John Giannandrea, head of machine learning and AI, and Craig Federighi, the top software engineering executive, Apple has assembled several dedicated teams for its latest AI venture.
While other tech giants have made bold strides in AI, Apple has taken a cautious approach and even refrained from discussing AI at their recent developer conference. However, Apple has discreetly integrated AI capabilities into products like Apple Photos, on-device texting, and their new Vision Pro mixed-reality headset.
The upcoming AI chatbot being developed by Apple, under the codename “Apple GPT,” will have advanced capabilities, including text summarization and answering queries based on training data.
Currently, the chatbot is in use for product prototyping, operating as a web application similar to other AI systems like Bard, ChatGPT, and Bing AI. While Apple doesn’t have a specific roadmap for these AI tools yet, they plan to make a significant AI-related announcement next year.
In comparison, ChatGPT for iOS was recently introduced to Indian consumers in May, offering a free app that allows chat history synchronization across multiple devices, requiring iOS version 16.1 or higher.
