Microsoft unveils the future plans for Word as the application celebrates its 40th anniversary

Microsoft Word, one of the oldest Windows applications, celebrated its 40th anniversary on October 25, 1983, marking a remarkable journey. To honor this occasion, Microsoft released graphics detailing Word’s history and offered a glimpse into its future updates.

The timeline highlights significant milestones, from the original 1983 release to Word 97 with AutoCorrect, the 2003 redesign, advanced image editing in Word 2010, improved ribbon design in Word 2013, and enhanced collaboration in Microsoft 365, including the highly anticipated dark mode.

Microsoft’s vision for the future includes integrating Copilot into Word, enhancing Word for the Web, refining collaborative writing, and empowering developers to create custom workflows for “amazing experiences.”

Notably, the blog post references the Apple Lisa, recognizing its role in reimagining the potential of personal computers.
