LG is the quitting the smartphone game, a huge era of smartphone industry has come to an end. The decision was made by their board of directors.

Existing products in the market will still be sold and support will also be given for a specific period of time which will vary by region to region.

This strategic decision to end the mobile development will eventually end upon in focusing on “resources in growth areas such as electric vehicle components, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence and business-to-business solutions, as well as platforms and services.”

LG did release a lot of eye-catching devices like the LG Wing, in which you could rotate your main screen and get a secondary screen behind it, they also released the LG G5, a modular smartphone. But unfortunately LG couldn’t receive the response in terms of sales of their high-end devices as they were expecting.

This also means that we will never see the roll-able screen smartphone which they had planned to release anytime soon in the future.

LG also stated in their statement that “they will continue to leverage its mobile expertise and develop mobility-related technologies such as 6G to help further strengthen competitiveness in other business areas”.
