LG G3, Optimus G Pro successor to feature fingerprint scanner: Report

fingerprint-scanner-phone-635LG might be the next handset manufacturer to adopt the fingerprint scanner feature, following the lead of Apple and later HTC, if a new report is to be believed.

A new report emerging from Korea has claimed that the South Korean giant plans to equip the fingerprint scanner on its upcoming rumoured LG Optimus G Pro successor (LG G Pro 2) and the LG G3. The report further indicates that LG might house the fingerprint scanner on the rear panel of the rumoured G Pro successor and G3.

Notably, LG has been following a new design aesthetic that includes the power and volume rocker buttons at the back panel, already seen on the 2013 flagship smartphone, the LG G2 and the G Flex. We expect that the company might place the fingerprint scanner on the alleged G Pro successor and G3 at the back, much like the HTC One Max.

An earlier report had suggested that LG had decided to adopt the fingerprint recognition technology for its next flagship smartphone and has been testing a prototype of the alleged LG G3 with fingerprint scanner. As per the report, LG has been testing a swipe fingerprint sensor that’s different from what Apple is using on iPhone 5s. The report did not detail much about the upcoming feature on the next flagship from LG, but it is said to come with the regular functions like unlocking the smartphone, and mobile payment authorisations.

Another report had suggested that the South Korean handset maker has plans to launch the successor to the LG Optimus G Pro at MWC 2014, while the alleged LG G3 flagship smartphone would be unveiled in May.

The report speculated that LG would be announcing its next flagship smartphone, believed to be dubbed LG G3, in May to counter Samsung’s rumoured Galaxy S5, which is said to be scheduled for a launch in March at a New York event. The report also expected that the alleged LG G Pro sequel would come with a 5.9-inch QHD display, while the rumoured LG G3 has been said to come with a 5.2-inch QHD display.

LG’s yet-to-be-announced G3 is said to come with a 1440×2560 pixels QHD (Quad-HD) display; an octa-core chipset, believed to be codenamed LG Odin, being developed by the company itself, and also a 16-megapixel rear camera.
