Konica Minolta Business Solutions Asia and Beyond Social Konica_MinoltaServices, a local voluntary welfare organisation, held a baking class for underprivileged children and youth on Saturday, 9th May 2015, where they baked rainbow cakes as a show of their appreciation and gratitude to their mothers. A total of 18 children and youth participated in the baking class. A total of 21 employees participated in the activity which saw them building friendships with the children and youth, and baking alongside them.

“Our joint initiative with Beyond Social Services is part of our ongoing efforts to contribute positively to the local community. We believe no contribution is too small and everyone can play an active part to serve the community. Hence, we strongly encourage our staff, at all levels, to participate in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, which we organise at least once every quarter. The CSR activity is in line with the management’s philosophy — The Creation of New Value, in which we strive to realise our vision as a global company that is vital to society and an innovative company that is robust and constantly evolving by delivering new value to help customers and society solve the challenges they face,” said Ms Celine Chelsea Long, Regional Marketing Manager, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Asia.

“Here at Beyond Social Services, our mission is to curb delinquency among underprivileged young people and their families and to move them beyond their problems. We believe that our work will have a longer lasting impact if more members of the community take an active interest in their well-being. Hence we are always on the lookout for opportunities to work with community partners such as Konica Minolta Business Solutions Asia who are willing to lend a helping hand and reach out to the children and youth,” commented Anne-Marie Ong, community worker, Beyond Social Services.

The baking class provided a warm and friendly experiential learning environment that allowed for easy and uninhibited flow of conversations between the children, youth and employees of Konica Minolta, whom volunteered to be a part of the initiative. Through the baking class, the volunteers developed a deeper understanding of the difficulties faced by the children and youth that they had interacted with. The volunteers also shared valuable life lessons and stories, as a way of motivating the children and youth to aspire to achieve their goals.
