Jolla smartphones will be sold exclusively on Snapdeal.com

Finnish smartphone maker is set to associate with SnapDeal for the launch.

 Indian e-commerce company SnapDeal will be the exclusive partner for Jolla phones. Following the tie-up, Jolla smartphones will be sold exclusively on Snapdeal.com within a month, revealed the company.

Earlier this year, Jolla informed that company is negotiating with several countries like Russia, Hong Kong and India, where it can open online sales. Jolla smartphone was announced in May last year and went on sale in November. The smartphone has an 11.43-cm (4.5-inch) IPS qHD (540x960p) screen. It is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm dual core processor and 1GB of RAM. The storage can be extended and comes with 16GB inbuilt. It has a 2100mAh battery and sports 8MP rear camera and 2MP front facing. What makes this phone different from the existing devices is the ability to change its interface theme when its cover is changed.

Sailfish OS is based on MeeGo, which was seen in Nokia N9 smartphone. Jolla was founded by a group of ex-Nokia employees, who were involved in the development of MeeGO based devices.

It offers button less, gesture based navigation, which supports Android apps.

Sami Pienimaki, co-founder and CMO of Jolla said, “India is a rising smartphone market of the world we look ahead to welcoming Jolla fans. Since the late 2011 when we established the company, we received tremendous response from India. We found it encouraging how much there is interest and trust which comes from Finland. We are excited in partnering with one of the biggest e-commerce partner of India, SnapDeal”.

The pricing has not been made public but it is sold in European market for 349 Euros($472.99).

The company will face competition from Chinese smartphone player Xiaomi which is selling Mi 3 at $232.33.
