It’s likely that iPhone 15 Pro users will have to deal with a limited RAM capacity

The tipster with the moniker URedditor has recently asserted that Apple conducted tests using both 6GB and 8GB RAM configurations for the upcoming A17 Bionic chip. However, it remains uncertain which configuration Apple ultimately opted for.

Anticipated for the iPhone 15 Pro lineup, the fresh A17 Bionic processor has stirred curiosity, yet details have been scarce. Nonetheless, a recent rumor sheds light on certain aspects, particularly the potential RAM capacity.

Shared on X (previously Twitter), URedditor hinted at the A17 Bionic chip’s specifications. The rumor suggests that there might be no RAM upgrade, as Apple could potentially retain the modest 6GB. This contradicts earlier speculation that indicated a possible 8GB RAM option. URedditor later elaborated that they have only encountered information about 6GB RAM, implying that 8GB RAM might be improbable but not entirely ruled out.

Conversely, indications point toward potential enhancements in other areas of the chip, such as the fabrication process, the number of GPU cores, and clock speed. The rumor proposes that the A17 chip could feature six CPU and GPU cores, employ TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process, and operate at a maximum speed of 3.70GHz. In comparison, the A16 Bionic processor comprises six CPU cores and five GPU cores, utilizes TSMC’s 4nm process, and reaches a maximum speed of 3.46GHz.

These details align with current knowledge surrounding the A17 Bionic chip, as these factors collectively influence the chip’s cost, performance, and efficiency. Apple insider Mark Gurman has indicated that the next chip offers noticeable speed improvements, and rumors have circulated about a potential 35% reduction in power consumption. However, other reports have suggested that Apple might switch from TSMC’s 3nm N3B process to the 3nm N3E process in 2024 for cost savings, potentially affecting efficiency.
