IRCTC partners with Zomato: Implications for travelers – advance meal orders, Navratri platters, and more

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) has formed a partnership with the food delivery platform Zomato. This collaboration means that passengers traveling on Indian railways will now have an extended range of food options available to them through the E-Catering segment of IRCTC. The alliance is aimed at enhancing the choices and convenience for rail passengers when it comes to their dining preferences, ultimately improving their travel experience.

To initiate this collaboration, IRCTC has launched a Proof of Concept (PoC) at five prominent railway stations: New Delhi, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Varanasi. Under this PoC, passengers can place orders for pre-ordered meals through the IRCTC E-Catering portal with the assistance of Zomato.

Furthermore, IRCTC’s catering division has announced special Navratri thalis, considering the demand from fasting passengers, as a part of its efforts to expand the options for rail passengers in ordering their preferred meals. This partnership signifies an effort to enhance the food choices for passengers during their train journeys, making the travel experience more enjoyable and comfortable.

The share price of Zomato reached a 52-week high of Rs 115 on October 18 after the announcement of the collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC).

This initiative reflects the increasing trend of railway services partnering with food delivery platforms to provide a wider selection of meal options for passengers during their train travel, addressing diverse dietary preferences and needs.
