Infosys launches initiative to support Make in India

The company has introduced Maker Awards with ₹1 crore as reward money for winners.

It plans to distribute this Maker Awards to 20 teams which will be shortlisted by a panel of judges representing technology, academia and the community.

The award was started off in the US last year and now comes to India.

“Infy Makers is going global and will help awaken a spirit of making in India and inspire the next generation of inventors,” says Vandana Sikka, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation USA.

“The idea is to enable people to come up with ideas that are relevant to real world problems, usage of technology innovatively and originality of these ideas,” said Pravin Rao, COO, Infosys, at the sidelines of Nasscom annual summit.
The company aims to encourage inventors through the Infy Maker Awards – India, by recognising ideas and projects that can fix or solve the problems of the contemporary technologies.

Through these awards, Infosys is eyeing to inspire a culture of making in India and motivate people to ideate, create, and promote skill-development around problem solving, critical thinking and innovation.

Infosys will help makers pursue their ideas, provide inspiration as well as enable an ecosystem of forward-thinking innovation. The company is expecting the ideas to come from sectors such as education, healthcare and energy. Further, Infy Maker awards will be an annual feature such as the Infosys Science awards.
