IET India Hosts IoT Conference On Digitising India

One-day Conference on Internet of Things by the IET brings together industry experts, policy makers and end users of IoT to discuss road ahead

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET India) along with MMI organised a one day conference on IETthe Internet of Things at the electronica India & productronica India 2015 tradeshow on September 10, 2015 at Pragati Maidan, in New Delhi.

The conference brought together subject matter experts to share insights from varying fields aimed to facilitate the evolving movement of IoT in India. Experts are of the opinion that IoT will be the lynchpin in realizing the vision of schemes including Digital India which aims to transform India into a connected economy.

Mr. R S Sharma, Chairman of TRAI was the Chief Guest at the event. Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head and Director, IET India, Dr Rishi Bhatnagar, Chair of the IET IoT Panel and Global Head, Digital Enterprise Services, Tech Mahindra, T V Ramachandran, Honorary Fellow of the IET and Ex- Director of Vodafone were the keynote speakers.

Four panel discussions were conducted as part of the conference featuring industry experts. The themes and participants were:

Internet of Things – Next wave of growth in Electronics          Moderated by Mr Babu Narayanan, Member of the IET India IoT Panel, Senior Principal at GE Software Research

Panelists: Ganesh Suryanarayanan, General Manager – IoT Principal, TATA Group, Sougata Mukherjee, Chief Technologist, IBM, Ashish Batra, Director, TechHomez and Venkatraman Swaminathan, Director, Uniflair India Pvt Ltd and President, Schneider Electric Systems.

Speaking at the event, Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head and Director, IET India said, “There is huge potential for the IoT in India, but there are equally massive roadblocks – like interoperability, standards, regulatory frameworks, data security and skillsets. The objective of this platform was to get key stakeholders to talk about the opportunities as well as solutions for these roadblocks.”

Dr Rishi Bhatnagar, Chairman of the IET IoT Panel and Global Head, Digital Enterprise Services, Tech Mahindra, said “Digital India, the ambitious agenda set by the government, will see participation from all sectors – enterprises, technology start-ups, industry verticals, academia and thought leaders. IoT will be the linchpin this to be realized and will help improve the quality of life of the citizens.”
