IESA Vision Summit 2016 – ‘Indian Semiconductor And ESDM Ecosystem: Scaling Up For $400B Make In India Opportunity’

India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), the premier body for the ESDM industry in the country, IESAwill initiate dialogues with global leaders in the electronics space, relevant policy makers and government representatives on ‘Indian Semiconductor and ESDM Ecosystem: Scaling Up For $400B Make in India Opportunity’ at IESA Vision Summit 2016, its 11th edition of annual flagship event.

The two-day event will feature a formidable line-up of industry experts, government officials, strategists, policy makers and business leaders, offering their views and visions. The event will be presided over by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Minister for Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India; Dr. Ajay Kumar, Additional Secretary, DeitY, Govt. of India; Sh. Krishna Byre Gowda, Minister for Agriculture, Govt. of Karnataka and Dr. Anup Pujari, Secy, MSME, Govt. of India along with the likes of BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman- Nasscom, Nicholas Braithwaite, Founding Partner, Riverwood Capital, Dr. Mike Hennell, Founder, LDRA; Chetan Maini, Founder, Mahindra Reva and many others.

On the occasion, Vinay Shenoy, Chairman, IESA said, “Today, domestic electronics manufacturing is a reality and no longer a dream. We are delighted with our ‘Make in India’ journey and contribution, and there is no doubt that India has convinced the world with its ‘Make in India’ aspiration. We believe that it has already begun to redefine the ESDM and Technology ecosystem and hence we have identified Vision Summit 2016 to be the inflection point for identifying ‘Make in India’ as a driver to realize the $400B opportunity”.

Gearing up for Vision Summit 2016, M.N. Vidyashankar, President, IESA said, “Investment in the electronics manufacturing sector has jumped over six-fold to reach Rs 1.14 lakh crore in 2015. This definitely brings a positive momentum in the industry and reinstates the fact that ‘Make in India’ has started bringing investments into the nation along with job opportunities. IESA has been quite instrumental in developing international partnerships through its counterparts in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore etc. and making efforts to build a talent house to address the ESDM requirements.”

There is high level participation from the Govt. of India, STPI and various state governments including Governments of Telangana; Karnataka; Madhya Pradesh; Odisha; Haryana; Uttar Pradesh.

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights
IESA, with support from Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), is conducting a half day workshop, with government representatives, industry veterans and academia expounding on various aspects of intellectual property rights such as IPR protection, commercialization and patent filing procedures. There will also be a boot camp for start-ups on how to apply for DeitY Support for Patent Protection in ESDM and on patent filing procedures and related strategies.

Electropreneur Park calls for next round of proposals from potential incubatees:
Electropreneur Park (EP), the first of its kind incubation centre for electronics startups, which is funded by DeitY, managed by STPI and implemented by IESA and Cybermedia at University of Delhi, South Campus, as the academic partner, calls for a fresh round of Business Plans for selecting next batch of incubates. Early Stage Start-ups in Electronic System Design & Manufacturing sector can submit their proposals for the same. The Last Date of Submission of the proposals is 31st March 2016.

IESA Technovation Awards
The IESA Technovation Awards finalist will be provided an opportunity to make their product pitches to the investors and prominent industry thought leaders. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Founder, The Art of Living will be the Chief Guest for IESA Technovation Awards, which is scheduled to happen on Feb 3, 2016 -Day 1 of the IESA Vision Summit.

This year we foresee huge representation from the automotive industry as the industry has strong export growth expectations for the near future, hence will bring immense opportunities to the electronics segment. The event will also emphasize on the possible contribution of women entrepreneurs in the growth of ESDM industry and how Skilling and Entrepreneurship will help India to achieve the goal of “Net Zero Imports by 2020” in the electronics space. The Summit also adds another tangent in the ESDM space with High Performance Computing (HPC).

MAKEATHON
With ‘Make in India’ evolved as the most encouraging push in the Indian ESDM Ecosystem, IESA has teamed up with IoTBLR with the support from Intel and TCS for MAKEATHON – a platform which will identify the most disruptive ideas in the IoT space aptly themed “IoTBLR Connected Devices Makeathon”. Vision Summit, with the presence of industry thought experts, academicians and various government officials, offers the best industry blend to the participants.

The jury, consists of industry experts and academicians, will select 3 winning teams and rewards include:
1. Incubation at a hardware accelerator
2. Assembly support up to 3 prototypes from INDIC Electronics
3. A Cash Award of Rs. 1,00,000, Rs. 750000 and Rs. 50000 to the 3 winners, basis their ranking
