Idea’s new Rs 309 plan offers 1GB data per day with unlimited calling

Ever since Reliance Jio made its entry, the Indian telecom market has been in a state of competitive frenzy. Telecom operators have been trying to offer similar offers at equivalent prices and the latest move comes from the Indian telecom operator Idea.
The company has launched a new plan that offers both calling and data benefits to users. This plan comes with validity of 28 days and offers unlimited local and STD calling along with 100 local and national SMS per day. As for data, it offers 28GB data (with 1GB data per day FUP limit) on 3G — yes you read that right!
Furthermore, Idea is offering 1 GB of additional data for 28 days on this Rs 309 plan if you recharge your Idea prepaid account trough MyIdea app. This would make it 2GB 3G data per day for 28 days.
This plan directly competes with Reliance Jio’s plan of Rs 309. The revamped plan also offers unlimited calling (both local and national) and offers 1GB data per day. However, it is valid for 49 days that too on 4G. Also, it includes unlimited text messages.
Recently, it was suggested by Vodafone Group CEO Vittorio Colao that the Idea-Vodafone merger is expected to close earlier than the September 2018 timeline. It is expected to be as early as next March-April, six months before the deadline.
Vodafone India and Idea are the country’s second and third-largest telcos and their merger will create India’s biggest phone company with over 400 million customers. The anti-trust body has already cleared the merger, however, the approvals from court and telecom department (DoT) are pending.
Last month, Airtel revamped its Rs 349 plan for prepaid users. The daily data limit was increased from 1GB to 1.5GB. Besides data, users also get unlimited local and national calls and 100 SMS per day. Valid for 28 days, this plan gives users 42GB.
