ICANN64 | Day 1 – GAC(Governmental Advisory Committee)

On the 9th of March, an Introductory Session was arranged for the first-timers, followed by a Governance and Accountability Processes(1 of 3) session in the evening which was continued the next day.

In the Introductory Session, ICANN GAC Support staff were identifying “first-time” GAC meeting participants and – prior to the start of the official GAC meeting – were offering them an informal briefing to share an introduction to the purposes, logistics and administration of a GAC meeting at an ICANN Public Meeting.

The preliminary agenda for that session included:
1. Overview of Expectations For GAC Public Meetings
2. Review of GAC Leadership, Support and Secretariat Roles
3. Public Meeting logistics
4. ICANN64 Preparation – schedule, etc.
5. Questions and Answers

Then in the Governance and Accountability Processes(1 of 3), Mr Manal Ismail (GAC Chair) was present and took part later in the session. From the WG, Ms Olga Cavalli started the session with continuous inputs from Mr Tom Barrett and Ms Cheryl Langdon Orr.

Later in the session, Mr Lars Hoffman and Mr Robert Hoggarth(Session Leader) also gave their inputs, topics covered in the Governance and Accountability Processes(1 of 3) were :

NomCom WG Meeting: After defining the GAC guidelines for Nomcom, the Working Group met to discuss how to prepare a procedure to provide information regularly to the Nomcom. The Working Group also reviewed other possibilities, besides sending the guidelines, of the GAC engaging in the Nomcom which may be reviewing the possibility of appointing a representative to fill in the seat that the GAC has in Nomcom.

GAC Standards and Work Processes Overview: GAC Leadership and Support gave an overview of GAC standards and procedures that needed clearer and agreed on process within the GAC.

GAC Advice Discussion: The GAC discussed its advice drafting and consultation process following the recent secretariat transition.

Governance and Accountability Processes (2 of 3) was scheduled for the next day.
