The upcoming Huawei P20 – the Chinese manufacturer’s new flagship smartphone, set to launch March 27, 2018, in Paris — could be the world’s first handset to come with a triple main camera, according to leaks reported by the Slashleaks website.
Several pictures supposedly showing cases for the upcoming Huawei P20 reveal three cameras at the rear of the device – a first in the smartphone market. However, no information accompanies the images and it’s impossible to know exactly what purpose they may serve. Logically, it seems that one of them could capture colors while another captures black and white, and the third might be a wide-angle camera. Some rumors suggest a 5x optical zoom.

Huawei has been working in partnership with Leica for more than two years on creating camera modules for its smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer was, moreover, one of the first to install a dual camera on its phones (starting with the P9 in 2016), with once camera taking care of detail while the other covers colors.

Otherwise, the new P20 reportedly has an edge-to-edge display, a Home button and a headphones jack. Under the hood, it’s expected to run a Kirin 970 processor with 6GB RAM and Android 8.1 (Oreo).

A pared-down version with just two cameras could also break cover when Huawei’s new smartphone is unveiled, March 27 at the Grand Palais in Paris.
