HTC Tiara Windows Phone Handset nearing launch

Even though HTC has received much critical and popular praise for its latest flagship Android smartphone (the One), the Taiwanese company doesn’t seem to have given up on the Windows Phone mobile OS either. According to Engadget, the HTC Tiara has been spotted in documents filed with the FCC, the American agency that deals with telecommunications, which means that the launch date is drawing close. An unnamed source had leaked the specs of the Tiara to Unwired View in February and had revealed that the phone would be the first one to sport the second update to the Windows Phone (also known as GDR2 or ‘General Distribution Release 2’).

According to the leak, the Tiara will sport a 4.3-inch Super LCD2 display with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. It will be powered by a dual-core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM. The Tiara will also offer 8GB of internal storage and an 1800mAh battery. Finally, the Tiara will supposedly have two cameras- a primary 8MP one and a front-facing 1.6MP one.

By all accounts the above specs suggest that the Tiara will be an upgraded version of the Desire SV with more powerful hardware, more storage and an additional camera and the same (or very similar) display. Unwired View expected the Tiara to be launched in May and that date has passed but the launch is still expected to happen this summer. Considering the fact that the Desire SV is currently being sold in India for Rs. 19,999, we expect the Tiara to have a price-tag closer to the Rs. 23K mark.
