The US tech behemoth Microsoft has announced the launch of a new tool called “Security Copilot” that makes use of the most recent GPT-4 generative artificial intelligence model from OpenAI. The tool will assist cybersecurity experts in identifying breaches and threat signals and in performing better data analysis.

Microsoft Security Copilot is a crucial instrument for swiftly identifying threats, taking appropriate action, and better comprehending the threat landscape as a whole.

Security Copilot will combine Microsoft’s vast threat intelligence footprint with industry-leading expertise to augment the work of security professionals through an easy-to-use AI assistant, the company said.

“Today the odds remain stacked against cybersecurity professionals. Too often, they fight an asymmetric battle against relentless and sophisticated attackers,” said Vasu Jakkal, corporate vice president, Microsoft Security.

“With Security Copilot, we are shifting the balance of power into our favor. Security Copilot is the first and only generative AI security product enabling defenders to move at the speed and scale of AI,” Jakkal added.

According to the company’s blog post, Security Copilot is made to work seamlessly with security teams, giving defenders the ability to see what is happening in their environment, learn from the intelligence that already exists, correlate threat activity, and make more informed, effective decisions at machine speed.

Security analysts can use the Security Copilot, a straightforward prompt box, to assist them with duties like summarising incidents, identifying vulnerabilities, and sharing information with coworkers on a pinboard.

Microsoft’s security-specific model, which the company characterised as “a growing collection of security-specific skills” and which is fed with more than 65 trillion signals daily, will be used by the assistant.

The tool will learn and adapt to stay up-to-date with the latest security threats and provide security teams with ongoing access to advanced AI models. It also has access to Microsoft’s vast threat analysis network, which makes it capable of identifying potential threats in real-time. The launch of Security Copilot is part of Microsoft’s efforts to integrate AI into its popular products to improve their functionality and security.
