Government Announces Roadmap for Machine to Machine Communications

BL13_IT__RAVI_SHAN_2403854fThe government has revealed the roadmap for Machine–to-Machine (M2M) communications to enable and realize the policy goals of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’.
“M2M has great potential to transform India and will be a key enabler for the government vision of Digital India, Make in India and proposed smart cities in India,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad, Telecom Minister. He even said that, to boost the socio-economic development of the country, implementation of M2M based applications in areas like healthcare, tele-education, smart grid, smart building, smart city have large benefits.
According to the roadmap document, with M2M technology farm land can be made smart by installing sensors, notifying when to do watering by measuring solid humidity level.
The document even said that, to boost manufacturing sector and employment generation, M2M brings new options of local manufacturing for devices and sensors for different sectors.
To thrive the M2M ecosystem in our country, the government will take a number of steps like formulating M2M service provider registration process, national M2M numbering plan, issuance and guidelines for M2M specific KYC and SIM transfer.
At the same time, the government will frame radiation guidelines for M2M devices based on research and studies by relevant bodies.
“M2M communications will have an impact on every aspect of life of a common man leading to social and economic benefits to consumers and businesses,” says Prasad.
