Google improves the battery life of Pixel smartphone in an update

Google recently rolled out some updates for its new-launched Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 smartphones, fixing some of the major issues. However, this doesn’t mean that the company has left it’s old Pixel users behind. The search giant has rolled out a new update for the original Pixel, improving its battery life.
In particular, Google has improved the battery level assumption by the smartphone. “To fix this, we built an on-device model that evaluates how you use your phone’s battery over time. Your phone looks at your battery usage on similar days and times, and uses that to predict your battery life in a personalized way,” says Michelle, a product manager, Google in a blog post.
This means that if users are watching YouTube or Netflix videos, it will show the extra battery drain in the battery estimation levels in the handset to give users an accurate understanding.
Pixel users can check this feature by navigating through the smartphone’s “Battery” option under settings and tapping on the personalised battery settings. They can also click on the big battery icon to see the estimate represented graphically over time. The Pixel has 2,770mAh battery and is claimed to deliver up to 26 hours of talk time on single charge.
While the Pixel 2 went on sale in India before, the Pixel 2 XL went on sale just last week. The device can be purchased online on Flipkart and offline on Croma, Reliance Digital, Vijay Sales, Poorvika, Sangeetha Mobiles and others. The Google Pixel 2 XL comes in two storage variants – 64GB and 128GB. The company has priced the 64GB version at Rs 73,000 and the 128GB variant at Rs 82,000.
The Google Pixel 2 XL comes with a 6-inch QHD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 1440×2880 pixel resolution. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. The Android 8.0 Oreo based smartphone sports a 12.2MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical and electronic image stabilisation with LED flash. There is also an 8MP front shooter with aperture of f/2.4 for selfies.
