Gionee Steel 2 smartphone with 4,000mAh battery launched in China

56495203Gionee has expanded its product portfolio with the launch of another smartphone in China. Dubbed Steel 2, the handset is priced at 1,299 Yuan and is available for pre-order in China. In terms of major specifications, Gionee Steel 2 has a 5-inch HD display of 720×1280 pixel resolution. Running Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, it is powered by quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage. The handset also accepts microSD cards for memory expansion. For imaging duties, the Gionee Steel 2 sports an 8MP rear camera (with LED flash) and a 5MP front camera for selfies. Equipped with a fingerprint sensor, the smartphone is backed by a 4,000mAh battery and offers 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS as major connectivity options. Measuring 144.3mmx70.5mmx8.6mm and weighing 160g, the dual-SIM Steel 2 is available in Jazz Gold and Gold Black colour options. Last year, Gionee launched its M2017 premium smartphone in China. The highlight of the M2017 is its massive 7,000mAh battery capacity, made possibly by two 3,500mAh batteries that the handset has. Running Amigo3.5 UI based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, the Gionee M2017 sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD resolution AMOLED display. Under-the-hood, it is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 SoC. The smartphone also has 6GB of LPDDR3 RAM and a dual-camera setup at the back. This is comprised of one 12MP sensor and one 13MP sensor, with 2x optical zoom and 8x digital zoom functionality. An 8MP selfie shooter is also included. On the storage front, the M2017 comes in two variants – 128GB and 256GB. There is, however, no microSD card slot. With the M2017, the company has joined the likes of Apple, Motorola and HTC by ditching the 3.5mm audio jack. There’s also a fingerprint sensor on the front, embedded in the Home button.
