Gartner Positions Informatica As A Leader In 2015 Magic Quadrant For Data Masking Technology, Worldwide

Informatica This Year Positioned Further on “Ability to Execute” Axis and is Farthest along “Completeness of Vision” Axis

Informatica, the world’s number one independent informatica-logo-largesoftware provider focused on delivering transformative innovation for the future of all things data, today announced that Gartner, Inc., a leading IT research and advisory firm, has positioned Informatica as a Leader in its December 2015 Magic Quadrant for Data Masking Technology report.

The complete report, published December 22, including the quadrant graphic, is available at:

Positioned as a Leader for the fourth consecutive year, Informatica has moved upward on the axis for “ability to execute” and is again farthest to the right on the axis for “completeness of vision” in the 2015 report.

Writing in the report, Gartner analysts Ayal Tirosh and Marc-Antoine Meunier observed, “Organizations should use data masking to protect sensitive data at rest and in transit from insiders’ and outsiders’ attacks. In 2015, continuous data breaches have, once again, demonstrated the growing importance of this technology market.”

According to the Gartner report, “Adopting DM [data masking] helps enterprises raise the level of security and privacy assurance. At the same time, DM helps them meet compliance requirements with the security and privacy standards recommended by regulating/auditing authorities (for example, the PCI DSS and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPAA]).”

The Gartner report also noted that “DM is purposely designed to provide fine granularity data protection, while retaining the usability of protected data. This is necessary for application testing (when testing should be done with fictitious [yet realistic] data instead of real sensitive data) and for analytics (that involve the use of aggregate data for scoring, model building and statistical reporting, but do not require identifiers that should be kept private). A growing number of enterprises make DM a mandatory part of their overall security strategies.”

“We believe Informatica’s position as a Leader in the 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Masking Technology reflects our ability to solve customers’ complex challenges for data security and privacy, as well as Informatica’s vision for how the combination of data security intelligence and controls solutions play in today’s overall data security and privacy space,” said Amit Walia, executive vice president and chief product officer, Informatica. “New and existing customers leverage our masking solutions to secure sensitive data in big data, cloud, on premise and legacy environments and to support data governance in highly regulated industries and geographies. With strengths in master data management, data quality, big data and cloud data integration, Informatica empowers customers to effectively weave data masking and other data security technologies into their entire data management fabric.”

Informatica Data Masking product offerings are part of the company’s comprehensive solutions for data security and privacy. Informatica Dynamic Data Masking masks data in use based on user roles and privileges, without changing the original source data. Informatica Persistent Data Masking masks data in place or when copied to non-production, support or outsource environments. This year, Informatica continued to innovate in the data security space with the release of its data security intelligence product Secure@Source, which provides enterprise-wide data security and risk analytics, followed by a solution for big data security. Together, the solutions support the precise controls needed to secure data, protect data privacy and tightly control access to sensitive, private and confidential information.
