Punit Soni, the high profile hire from Silicon Valley, made by India’s most valued internet company, has quit Flipkart, in about a year of joining.
Flipkart hired Soni, a Google executive with expertise in mobile technology, to head product development.
Soni was responsible for significantly enhancing the product design capability and hiring a robust tech team.
Flipkart had been denying Soni’s move for atleast three months. In January, when ET approached Flipkart the company said, “Punit will transition from his current role to work with Binny Bansal, CEO of Flipkart on company-wide initiatives.” However, now the company confirmed his departure.
However, multiple sources said, he made up his mind to quit the company by then.
Soni, while at Google was responsible for managing and launching products such as mobile apps for the search giant and Moto G for Motorola Mobility.
The exit of Soni comes after Flipkart’s commerce platform head Mukesh Bansal and chief business officer Ankit Nagori quit the firm earlier this year.
