Fitbit launches its first smartwatch, Ionic along with wireless earphones and a smart scale

Fitbit has finally unveiled what can be called its first bonafide smartwatch. Dubbed Ionic, the wearable device is already up for pre-orders in the US at $299.95 (roughly Rs 19,200) from the company’s own website. It will be made available in three colour combinations – Blue+Silver, Blue+Orange, and Charcoal+Gray. The shipping is supposed to commence within a month.
The Fitbit Ionic comes with three band options – Sport, Leather and Classic. Users can swap the bands as and when they want. The device has a LCD touch screen that has brightness level of up to 1000 nits and is coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The device is water resistant by up to 50 metres and is made using 6000 series aerospace-grade aluminum. The case includes GPS antenna for better satellite connection.
Besides GPS, other sensors included in the watch are Altimeter, accelerometer, compass, heart rate monitor, ambient light sensor and vibration component for better feedback. The Fitbit Ionic is compatible with Android, iOS and Windows platforms and syncs with them using Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. Users can view call and text notifications on the screen, control music and more. For desktops, the smartwatch is compatible with Windows Vista, Mac OS X and later versions.
The Fitbit Ionic can store seven days of detailed motion data on a minute by minute basis and can also save daily totals for up to 30 days. On the battery front, the device can typically last for over four days. The company has also mentioned that the battery life and charge cycles will vary with use and other factors.
There is also a special edition FitBit Ionic smartwatch as well. For this, the company has tied up with Adidas for better experience. Using the watch you can make wireless payments as well.
Besides the new Fitbit Ionic, the company launched two new accessories, Fitbit Flyer wireless headphones and Fitbit Aria 2 smart scale.
Fitbit Flyer comes in two colours – Nightfall Blue and Lunar Gray, costing $129.99. it is also up for pre-orders from the company website. The device will be shipping in October. The Fitbit Flyer is sweat proof and both the earphones are connected with a wire.
As for the Aria 2, the company’s new Wi-Fi smart scale, besides giving you your weight details, also tells you about body fat and BMI tracking. The scale can recognise up to eight users and also keeps their data private. Coming Black and White colours, the Aria 2 is priced at $129.95 and is up for pre-orders like the Flyer and Ionic.
