Elon Musk announces the upcoming launch of xAI’s chatbot ‘Grok’ for X Premium+ subscribers next week

X Premium+ subscribers can expect the release of xAI’s chatbot ‘Grok’ next week, as confirmed by Elon Musk. Screenshots revealed Grok’s integration into X’s web app, and app researcher Nima Owji shared images displaying features such as an “Ask Grok” text entry box.

Musk claims Grok, released on November 4 to select testers, will have a distinctive personality, responding with wit and possessing a rebellious streak.

Grok will answer “spicy” questions rejected by other AI systems. Its differentiation lies not only in personality but also in access to real-time knowledge via the X platform, potentially boosting sign-ups for X Premium+, which includes an ad-free experience and a Creator Hub for users.

Grok’s debut follows a turbulent week at OpenAI, X’s rival, where CEO Sam Altman was ousted and then reinstated amid a board rebellion. Musk, a former co-founder of OpenAI, launched xAI after a public rift with Altman.

Grok has been trained on a knowledge base similar to ChatGPT and Meta’s Llama 2 but will leverage real-time access to information on the X platform and search the web for up-to-date information on some topics.
