Elon Musk announces the launch of two new premium plans for X

Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has revealed that the platform will introduce two new premium subscription tiers for X Premium, previously known as Twitter Blue.

According to Musk’s announcement on X, one of these tiers will be offered at a lower cost and will provide access to all features while retaining advertisements. The other tier will be priced higher but will offer an ad-free experience for subscribers.

This move is part of X’s strategy to explore new revenue streams. The company recently conducted a trial of a basic $1 per year plan in New Zealand and the Philippines, which restricts access to basic features like posting, liking, and reposting, marking a departure from the previously free access to these features. The primary goal of this trial is to reduce the presence of bots on the platform, and it is not primarily intended as a source of profit. There is no confirmation regarding the expansion of this $1 plan to other regions at this time.

Reports suggest that Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, held discussions with lenders to outline a multi-tiered plan for the Premium subscription service. This premium plan, priced at $7.99 per month or Rs 650, will consist of Basic, Standard, and Plus variations, each offering different ad experiences based on user preferences. X hopes that this three-tiered approach will attract a broader range of consumers who may not want to pay for a full premium subscription.

X Premium currently offers subscribers prioritized rankings in conversations and search, reducing the number of ads displayed. Subscribers can also compose posts with up to 25,000 characters, upload 1080p videos, and edit a post up to five times within an hour or undo it.

In summary, X is expanding its premium subscription offerings to include a lower-cost tier with ads and a higher-cost ad-free tier, diversifying its revenue streams and catering to a wider range of users’ preferences.
